Active ingredients of plant protection products are classified according to their mechanism of action and clearly assigned with the help of codes. The Herbicide Resistance Action Committee (HRAC) has now changed the previous alphanumeric system at European level to a numeric system identical to that of the Weed Science Society of America (WSSA).

As part of this changeover, changes to the classification of individual active substances are also being implemented in Austria.

The Federal Office for Food Safety (BAES) will use the new numerical HRAC classification for all plant protection product approvals issued from this date onwards as of February 1, 2024.
